Custom built-in workstation in Elk Grove Village, IL in Sebior’s New York Collection with integrated LED lighting, black shelf backs, and hidden wiring for a clean modern look.
Elk Grove Village Built-In Workstation in the New York Collection
This Elk Grove Village project was designed as a clean, modern built-in that brings together a functional workstation and display storage in one seamless wall. The cabinetry is from Sebior’s New York Collection, paired with a warm wood work surface and open shelving with black backs for contrast. Integrated LED lighting highlights the shelving and workspace, and all wiring is concealed so the final look stays sharp and uncluttered.
At a glance
This project took place in Bartlett, IL and uses the New York Collection. Scope includes full kitchen cabinetry with integrated lighting upgrades. Highlights include under-cabinet LED lighting, lit corner cabinet storage, optional motion-activated lighting, and a bright sink area that keeps the space feeling open.
The vision and goals
The homeowner wanted a kitchen that felt modern but inviting, with a layout and finish palette that keeps the space light and easy to live in. The priorities were keeping the kitchen bright and airy, improving task lighting for everyday use, making corner storage more functional, and creating a clean, streamlined look with minimal visual clutter.
Design highlights
The built-in combines closed storage, drawers, and open shelving to keep everyday items organized while still leaving space for books, décor, and family essentials. The black shelf backs add depth and make the white cabinetry and lighting pop, especially in the evening. Integrated LED lighting is used to highlight the open shelves and provide task lighting at the workstation. A dedicated workspace area is built directly into the design, with power available where it’s needed and cables routed out of sight so the desktop stays clean.
The Process
We started with measurements and layout planning to make sure the built-in fit the wall perfectly and worked with the room flow. From there we finalized materials and the lighting plan, then built and installed the cabinetry for a true wall-to-wall custom fit. Final details included aligning doors and drawers, finishing the shelving, and confirming the lighting and wire management so everything feels intentional and polished.

About the New York Collection
The New York Collection is a great fit for built-ins because it has a sleek, modern profile that looks architectural and clean. It works especially well when paired with bold contrast elements like dark shelf backs and integrated lighting, creating a built-in that feels like part of the home rather than a piece of furniture added later.
